To treat a cavity, your dentist will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then “fill” the area on the tooth where the decay was. Fillings are also used to repair cracked, broken or injured teeth and teeth that have been worn down from nail-biting, tooth grinding or other misuse.
Teeth can be filled with white porcelain, silver amalgam or a white glass material called composite resin fillings. Your dentist’s recommendation helps determine the type of filling that will best address your needs. General considerations include the extent and location of the decay, the cost of the filling material, and your insurance coverage.
To maintain your fillings you should follow good oral hygiene practices and visit your dentist regularly for cleanings. Additionally, make sure to brush with a toothpaste containing fluoride, and floss at least once daily.
If your dentist suspects that a filling might be cracked, he or she will take x-rays to assess the situation. If your tooth is extremely sensitive, you feel a sharp edge, you notice a crack in the filling, or a piece of the filling is missing, call your dentist for an appointment.
At Glenview Smiles, we offer several options of affordably priced fillings. Our quality fillings help you prevent more serious dental health issues and painful dental emergencies down the road.

I cannot say enough good things about the service I received and all the people who work at Glenview Smiles. Tony the hygienist was the first person I met. Even though he needed to do a "deep cleaning", I felt no pain. They have state of the art equipment for xrays and cleaning. He was professional and friendly and had a gentle touch. I need a lot of work (I knew that before coming in). Dr. Lunsford was the dentist I saw on my second visit. He was amazing- and Patty the assistant was equally so. They are a great team! I had 2 fillings fixed; one was very deep and the other was in a broken front tooth. Dr Lunsford crafted a front tooth that looks exactly like the original did. I never felt a thing, and I never once gagged, thanks to Patty, who handled the irrigation and suction better than anyone I've encountered in 50 years. We discussed a treatment plan and I never once felt pressured to commit unless I am totally on board. The women at the front desk were also very nice- and they are very transparent about pricing and insurance estimates. It looks like I will have to go back at least another 6 times (not including regular cleanings), and I am fine with that. I'll stop short of saying I'm looking forward to those visits- but I am certainly not dreading them and I KNOW I will be pleased with the end results. Many thanks to all of you! Sue Guido
